Interns

We started our ten week internship yesterday with the arrival of three wonderful young people. Two are from Newcastle, who are looking to change the the way they live. Looking for an alternative to  the hustle and bustle of urban life. They don't know much about farming, gardening or Permaculture but sure want to give it a good go. Even after a quick farm tour they were abuzz with the information and possibilities.

The third person is a young woman from New Zealand, who has completed her Permaculture Design course and is particularily interested in Community Supported Agriculture. Her plan is to go back to NZ and set herself up on some land with a CSA as the focus.

Today they begin their education in the Mandala Market Garden. They will be weeding the beds and maintaining the paths ready for a load of sawdust to be delivered. The sawdust paths are our main deterrant to snails.

 The internship is our alternative to WWOOFers. You may remember a while ago I posted about our move away from wwoofing. We were finding it very time consuming with short term workers requiring lots of supervision by Mark and constant food preparation on my part. The interns are here for a long time and can be set to tasks with minimum supervision, once chores are established. They are also responsible for their own food, so less of a strain on our time.

                                              We look forward to a very productive ten weeks.
