More Handmade

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a most joyous Christmas and New Year. We were able to see all my children and their partners and babies on Christmas day and a couple of Mark's daughters and their little ones a few days before.

I made three of these tipis the week before Christmas for the grand children. One for each family. I followed directions from here. Quite an easy make. I used as much resources from around the house and farm as I could, having to buy the fabric and grommets. I used old curtain rings to attache the fabric to the poles, and sourced the poles from our bamboo patch. I added some elastic around the top of the fabric to stop it stretching and some elastic from one side of the top to the other to keep the fabric up when the tipi is folded up. The children loved them and they can be used inside or outside.

We are looking forward to another full and bountiful year. We have another little grandchild due in May. I'm really looking forward to sewing and knitting for another little one, although my daughter is quite proficient in this area herself and probably doesn't need extras, but I just can't resist. It is a grandma's prerogative, don't you think?

  1. Oh my goodness, another grand baby? How fortunate are you?!? And really, babies can never have too many hand knits, can they?
Love the tipi and I love seeing what others have made in the hand made dept. Trouble is, I always forget by next Christmas and then scramble to come up with something unique and not too hard!
Wishing you and all your loved ones a bountiful 2015, Kate. May you find some rest in between all the everyday busyness of your life. xx

  2. Its certainly a Grandmas prerogative, congratulations a new baby is always a welcome gift. The tipis are a real delight what great gifts. Best wishes for 2015.

  3. What a lovely present...I've wanted to make one for my daughter (even though she is 8) she loves cubby houses and in fact she reminded me yesterday that I had promised to get her some bamboo sticks.. I'll have to do it as they look amazing. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane

  4. That is the best present ever. So much thought and time has gone into this gift. Your grandchildren, as always , are very lucky.x
