...to fertilise fruit trees.
This is one of our Washington Navel oranges. Can you see the little flower buds forming? To maximise fruit production they need feeding up now.
I cleaned up underneath and then added a couple of barrow loads of horse, cow and chook manure. This was then watered in really well.
I then mulched heavily with spoilt lucerne hay.. Then onto the next...
Hmmm... I guess I'd better get onto our lemons now then too! Our two lonely lemons are nearly ready to eat!
ReplyDeleteYes, we've been mulching around our fruit trees too - with spent hay mixed with guinea pig droppings from a friend. She has 60 or more piggies and shows them!! I hope it's not too strong for the tree's as I have so much of it and want to use it NOW!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Timely post Kate. I need to get on to ours. I'll get right on to adding this job to the 'to do' list!
ReplyDeleteYes! I have fertilized, but not mulched!! I was given a tip once that I should fertilise my Citrus at the start of every season! Working well so far! :)
ReplyDeleteI am keeping my fingers crossed that we will be picking clementines in the next few months. Now I need to pick the pears before the squirrls eat them all! Enjoy your warming weather.xx
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a job on my to-do list as well.
ReplyDeleteThe oranges and mandarins have been very tasty this year and I just looove citrus blossoms.
