Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny again this week ( go to the button on the side to see more wonderful creations on Ginny's blog)

The weather has been a little cooler on and off over the past 2 weeks and I have been able to handle knitting with wool. A cowl has been long on my to do list as an alternative to a scarf while I am working around the farm  I came across this one called the honey cowl, by Madelelinetosh and just love it.

Here is the one I finished last week using yarn from my stash. I made the longer one so that I could wrap it around twice but didn't have enough yarn so it's half the width suggested which suits me for the farm.

And so I've started another one. Once again using yarn that I had, but look forward to making another next year with madelinetosh yarn. This yarn was a bulk lot given to me by a friend, so there is plenty to make the wider one but I'm leaning towards the narrow one.

And the book I've been reading is Food and Development. Quite a heavy read and so I'm reading small sections at a time. This book looks at the diverse food related problems of the modern world . It looks at undernutrition and over nutrition and the causes, food politics and power. And at the moment I'm reading about globalisation and the part it plays in malnutrition.

An interesting read for anyone concerned with food sovereignty. My resolve for mindful living is deepened from the reading of just the first few chapters. Why should we have so much in the overdeveloped world when so many have so little? The over consumption of resources, the exploitation of the powerless and the mindless consumerism for the sole purpose of filling the pockets of the powerful. And what do I take from this? to live an even more frugal life with gratitude and thankfulness for all that  I do consume.
